This
is a beautiful Persian
Karadja runner. It was hand knotted in Iran. The rug
is approximately 30 years old. It measures 2'2" x 6'11".
Karadja is a weaving town in Iranian Azerbaijan, located
near Heriz (between Tabriz and Ahar). Rugs from there usually
bear a distinctive latchhooked octagonal medallion. Rugs
in runner configuration are also an area specialty. This
rug shares both attributes. Three floral medallions rest
on the rosey red grounded field. There are other floral
motifs as well as a green bird in each corner of the field
and four groups of four pairs of birds sort of joined at
each others' back. This rug is in excellent condition.
It has a tight, dense weave with very supple and rich 100%
wool pile, and cotton foundation. The colors are a burnt
red background with various shades of green, ivory, blue,
and many earth tones. This geometric pattern is accented
with repetitive medallions in various colors to create a
stunning piece.
