This
is a magnificent example of an Afghan tribal rug
by Ghanzi weavers. This rug was woven in Ghanzi, which is
in central Afghanistan. The acquired name for this type
of rug is Surplasi or Suphra. It was woven approximately
20 years ago, and it is 100% wool on a wool foundation.
All vegetable dyes were used, and it has a combination of
pile weave and brocade weave. The intensely woven Brocade
weave is on both ends of the rug. The pattern is tribal
geometric with a medallion. The approximate size is 5'2"x2'9".
As with all original pieces of art, this rug is a wonderful
investment and a great addition to any home.
