Persian
Kerman Runner-Rug
This
beautiful rug was handmade in the city of Kerman, central
of Iran. Old Kerman Persian Rug Design Marco Polo visited
this city and tells of rich fabrics and shawls produced
there but makes no mention of carpets. Yet later, during
the Safavid period of the early 16th century until 1722
the workshops created extraordinary carpets. These carpets
were often imported to the royal courts of India. In the
19th century and up until the Great Depression began in
1929, Kerman produced carpets almost exclusively for the
American market. This piece was woven by hand with a 100%
wool pile with a foundation made of pure cotton. Most sophisticated
and valuable rug of the southeastern Iran influenced by
the French Aubusson. Mostly open field patterns in pastels
woven in Jufti knots in elaborate floral decorations. Kermans
are usually high-piled triple weft rugs.
It is clean and in perfect condition; never been used before.
The size is 2.7' x 6.2. The pile is soft wool on cotton
foundation with colors like blue, ivory, rose, red, green
and yellow.
